Plain-English Explanation

Meal timing is the schedule around food: when meals happen, how protein is spaced, whether training is fed or fasted, and whether calories are pushed earlier or later in the day.

The useful version is practical, not magical. Timing can help when it solves a real problem: training after a long gap, recovering between same-day sessions, spreading protein across the day, managing hunger, or making the plan easier to repeat.

The hype version turns timing into a metabolism loophole. Evidence does not support a rule that six small meals automatically boost metabolism, that a missed 30-minute protein window wastes the workout, or that meal timing can override the calorie target, protein target, food quality, sleep, and training consistency.

The page-level caveat: diabetes care, GI conditions, pregnancy, eating-disorder recovery, shift work, medication timing, religious fasting, and medically supervised weight loss can make meal timing a clinician-specific question. A public glossary definition should not become a universal schedule.
