A 2024 systematic review in healthy adults found trivial or non-significant pooled effects for aerobic endurance, anaerobic endurance, muscular strength, and average heart rate, with a small lower-limb explosive-power signal and lower perceived exertion and blood lactate in some analyses. A 2026 mouse study adds mechanism interest, not human recovery proof.
What to do instead
Treat hydrogen water as optional novelty, not the missing recovery step. Keep sleep, calories, carbohydrate, protein, ordinary hydration, training-load management, deloads, and clinician care first. Do not borrow evidence across water, tablets, inhaled gas, chambers, spa devices, or finished products, and do not self-prescribe gas exposure or recovery-device protocols from fitness content.
