Do ab circuits burn belly fat?

Spot reduction sounds intuitive because the working muscle burns, gets tired, and may even look pumped after training. That local sensation is real muscle work, not proof that nearby fat cells are being emptied first.
The direct abdominal-exercise trial in the No Lies Lifting source trail found better curl-up endurance after six weeks, but not meaningful changes in body weight, body-fat percentage, android fat, abdominal circumference, or abdominal skinfolds. That is the useful distinction: ab training can improve what the abs do without making belly fat leave first.
A smaller waist usually comes from the whole fat-loss system: a sustainable calorie deficit, enough protein, lifting that protects or builds lean mass, cardio or steps that fit recovery, sleep, and enough consistency for the trend to show up. Which exercise you feel in one body part is much less important than the plan you can repeat.
There is still nuance. Exercise and diet can change abdominal fat over time, and different studies measure subcutaneous fat, visceral fat, waist circumference, and skinfolds differently. But that does not turn crunches, side bends, high-rep circuits, waist trainers, sweat belts, or "lower belly" routines into targeted fat-loss tools.
Use ab work for trunk strength, bracing, rotation control, posture under load, and performance. If the goal is less belly fat, keep ab training in the program, but judge progress with waist and body-weight trends over weeks rather than the burn from one workout.
