Short for body recomposition: trying to improve muscle-to-fat balance without relying on fast scale change.

Recomp is the short version of body recomposition. The useful meaning is not "eat randomly and hope." It is a slow phase where training quality, protein, calories, sleep, and trend tracking are lined up well enough for muscle gain or retention and fat loss to overlap.
A recomp can be a smart first phase for newer, returning, higher-fat, or recently inconsistent lifters. It can also become a hiding place for indecision if waist, photos, lifts, and scale trend are all flat for long enough.
Use the term as a plan label, not a promise. If the trend does not move after 6-8 consistent weeks, choose a clearer cut, lean-gain, or maintenance phase instead of endlessly renaming a stall.
